Montepulciano has the very coolest number plates for houses. I was addicted to them. A slab of marble with iron numbers nailed to the wall. Gorgeous. And the walls themselves! Old bricks falling apart. Paint flaking off. Bright pink paint. It's all so interesting. Texture. All serving the same purpose. The thing about Italy, is that you can you can be in the dumpiest town, just trying to get from one cool place to the next, and even there, the curbs are made out of marble. Can you imagine living in a place where marble is cheaper & more available than cement?
