Shepherd Market area

I don't understand why a hospital can make millions of dollars recently on a charity ball yet a weekend after run out of blood gas syringes, pillows, and tacrolimus. Actually the pillows thing isn't new. There is never any around.
I sat in a meeting with Band 6 nurses the other day with a therapist, who they've hired to figure out why there is so much burnout, sick calls & high stress in the ICU. These were the issues that arose....multiple miswritten orders by the registrars (fair enough), too much paperwork (fair enough), emails regarding the color of our socks being wrong (yep), no longer being able to have two 1 hour breaks on night shift (yep), and finally....we no longer get a free newspaper in the staff breakroom (not lying). These chicks have no idea how good they have it. I have seen paired patients merely a few times. The mention of only 1/2 hr break is shocking news. There is a bottomless pit of free tea & coffee around here. They get SEVEN weeks of vacation a year. I sat there dumbfounded. Surrounded by a group of stressed-out, haggard, burnt-out nurses who are supposed to be the leaders of the unit & this is what they come up with. Where's the pep talk, the "we do amazing things here" talk, the I'm proud to work here???? Give me a break! I'm over it already.
